Day 239 of War
Yesterday after Torah reading my oldest son was called out of the synagogue. Why? Several months ago, he completed his firefighter course and, sadly, there was a grass fire on the edge of Shilo. It seemed more or less under control until the wind changed. Then things became quite serious and nearby mobile homes had to be evacuated.
It was quite frightening to see the powerful red flames. A week earlier we’d seen dozens of Lag B’Omer bonfires, also with red flames, but those were built with love and supervised. These were set ablaze with hate.
As things became more dangerous firefighting planes joined the battle. Just like with my sons in the army I was unbelievably proud of my eldest, but how I wished he didn't have be there fighting. After about four hours he was finally able to go home.
That fire was one of the five lit over Shabbat in Yehudah and Shomron. Yes, they were arson. Yes, they were acts of war.
This afternoon, a rocket, I assume from Hezbollah, landed near my daughter-in-law’s home in the Golan. She fled with my three young grandchildren without taking any changes of clothing or precious belongings with them. Thankfully, the fire is under control but due to extensive smoke they still cannot yet return home. Another act of terror.
We can make all the deals in the world but until the evil of Hamas, Hezbollah, and the other terrorist entities are totally eradicated there will be no end to war. Israel has made ceasefires over and over. All they do is give the enemy more time to plan their next attack. Now we need to learn from history and totally defeat the evil that constantly attacks us.
